While on the BYU-Idaho Comm 316 excursion to the Sky Mountain Lodge near the Jackson, Wyoming area, we were given the assignment to experiment with balancing and controlling light sources. For this post, I want to show you what a reflector is able to do and what you can do with just you, your camera and a snooted flash (MTS). The captions will explain what light source is being used in the associated image.
I knew that reflectors were super useful, but I never realized what a difference they could make in my photos. For the most part, we diffused the sun light and used the gold reflector for a nice warm hairline light. Ina couple of these we also used a silver reflector as a fill light. Beautiful natural light!
MTS is another acronym that stands for Mobile Triangle Shot. So, pretty much you have your body and camera as one corner, your subject as another corner and finally your snooted flash as the third corner. you don’t use anything but your own arms to direct the flash and the camera. It was very difficult for me to get the hang of this MTS thing for portraits.
